Coming from a high school with more than 5,000 students in Long Beach, California, I knew I wanted a change coming to college. I needed a community of professors, mentors, and friends who could support me through the difficult change as well as make it fun and interesting. I found that right away at Adelphi. Once I came for orientation, I knew right away I would fit in; there literally is something for everyone here. I joined the dance team and the Levermore Global Scholars program right away, both of which helped me connect with students that had similar interests as me. I also started off my freshman year with the Freshman Community Action Program (FCAP) which helped me make a close group of friends. We completed more than 40 hours of community service in three days, and I quickly familiarized myself with the community surrounding Adelphi.

After a great freshman year, I decided it was time to start giving back to Adelphi. This past summer I was an Orientation Leader and an FCAP Leader, and I had even more fun the second time around. When the school year started, I was a Peer Assistant Leader (PAL) for the freshman class, and I continued on with Dance Team (where I was able to exhibit my own choreography) and the Levermore Global Scholars program (where I am currently planning an event surrounding the upcoming elections). Overall, Adelphi has given me a great jumping off point for the rest of my life, and I wouldn’t change my decision to be here.

My senior year of high school I attended an annual performing arts college fair in Dallas, Texas. At that time I had never even heard of Adelphi. I had driven from my hometown of Edmond, Oklahoma in search of information from other well-known universities. However, once I met with Professor Petron, I knew Adelphi had to be on my list.

It wasn't until I came and visited the school that I really knew it was for me. I loved everything about Adelphi. The students I met were friendly; the faculty was encouraging and helpful. Everything about my experience was positive. The professors who auditioned me for the acting program even laughed in al the right places during my monologue. I knew that day that this is where I had to come and I'm grateful I did! Now those same professors are my advisors, directors and confidants.

Adelphi has turned out to be everything I had hoped it would be, and more. Everyday I am gaining valuable experiences that will help me in my career, and my life. I'm a long way from my friends and family, but the Adelphi community has really made me feel welcomed and comfortable. I' ve gained valuable experiences and relationships I know I will help me for the rest of my life.

Once you step onto Adelphi’s campus you get a feeling of belonging.  As an international student, that was one element I strongly desired.    The professors are ready to help students make a smooth transition from high school to college.  They have a genuine interest in the success of their students.  Students of different races interact with each other on a daily basis culminating in campus that is continuously rich and vibrant.  A wide variety of student club organizations and the close proximity of New York City make campus a fun and exciting place.   I feel Adelphi has given me many opportunities and prepared me for life after college.

I've always loved to act, sing and dance. Performing is something I need to do. When I auditioned for Adelphi University's performing arts program, and met Nick Petron, Maggie Lally and Brian Rose, I knew where I needed to be for the next four years. The Adelphi professors treat you like a person, not a number, and they not only use their classes but their then office hours a week to help prepare you the best they can to succeed. They actually matched me up with an upper classman acting major who showed me the beautiful campus and introduced me to a lot of great people. Now, I am currently a mentor in the same program. I was also able to become a member of Adelphi's Honors College which will help me develop many skills for graduate school.

There are also many opportunities in residential life at Adelphi University. I am currently a mentor in Eddy Hall and I plan on becoming an RA.

I love Adelphi and luckily I am a tour guide so I can talk about it. So please come for a tour so I can show you how great this school is.

I chose Adelphi University while torn between two schools. I ultimately chose Adelphi after I visited the campus. The green lawns captivated me. I knew that no matter where I went, it needed to be a green, quiet campus-not a noisy concrete building amid a jungle of concrete buildings.

Meeting some of the faculty also made my choice an easy one. Their helpfulness and advice showed me that they cared, especially because they remembered me from telephone conversations.

The students who saw me walking around were very friendly and this was not a facade, but actually represents the campus community.

Knowing that I'd be dorming, I made sure the school had plenty to keep me occupied and entertained during the weekend; I am not disappointed.

The interesting yet challenging curriculum kept me from transferring unlike some friends who switched from their respective schools. The hard work in high school also paid off seeing as how the scholarships are based on academic merit and the generous acceptance of AP credits helped me as well.

Anxiety still existed, but after freshman orientation and my first semester, all anxiety turned into confidence in the right choice that I made.
