Chat sessions are used as a learning forum because they allow students and faculty to collaborate and communicate from remote locations. We use a Moodle chat tool that allows communication in real time. Unlike in discussion forums, which are a means for asynchronous communication, online chat sessions need everyone to be logged in at the same time to communicate.
