Q: What are Adelphi University's admission requirements?
A: International students must include the following in their application:
- A completed international student application (PDF 351KB). Incomplete forms will result in delays reviewing your application.
- A nonrefundable $50.00 application fee. Checks drawn on a US bank should be made payable to Adelphi University. International money orders will not be accepted.
- Undergraduate applicants are required to submit official secondary school/university records directly to Adelphi University; graduate applicants are required to submit official college/university records to Adelphi University. One set of records should be in your native language and one set translated into English. Photocopies are not acceptable without an official stamp or seal from the school attended.
*Undergraduate transfer applicants must submit official transcripts and course descriptions for all institutions of higher education attended.
- Students whose native language is other than English must submit official TOEFL scores. A minimum score of 550 is required (213 computerized score, 80 Internet score). All students applying for a graduate program in the School of Business are required to submit a GMAT score. Doctoral applicants to the Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies must submit GRE results.
- SAT results (including the writing section) are required for freshmen applicants whose native language is English.
- An essay is mandatory of all applicants.
- One reference letter is required for undergraduate applicants. Graduate applicants must submit two or three reference letters, depending on intended major.
- An official bank statement showing at least $31,150 must be submitted for applicants requiring a student visa.
- Students must fill out the Affidavit of Support section in the international application. The Affidavit of Support must be notarized for $31,150, the amount that the sponsor has made available for expenses of the student.
- Though the financial documents are not required for an admissions decision, an I-20AB form will not be issued without them. These documents must be dated within six months of the start of term.

Q: Can I send my official secondary school/university records to your offices directly?
A: All academic records should be sent directly by the previous school attended. If a student wishes to submit transcripts on behalf of the previous institution, they must be official and bear the school's stamp or seal.

Q: What are Adelphi University's application deadlines?
A: Adelphi offers rolling admissions. However, the recommended deadlines are December 1 (spring applicants) and May 1 (fall applicants) for freshman and transfer students. For those wishing to live on-campus for the fall semester, please submit the housing agreement form by June 1. Housing availability for the spring semester can be limited and is determined by the Office of Residential Life.
Recommended deadlines have also been set for the following graduate level programs: Education (all programs except Communication Disorders): April 1 (fall) November 1 (spring); M.S.W. Social Work: July 15 (fall) December 1 (spring).
Note: The following programs have specific deadlines: Ph.D. Clinical Psychology: January 15 (fall admission only); M.S. Communication Disorders: March 1 (fall) October 1 (spring); M.A. School Psychology: March 1 (fall) November 30 (spring); M.A. Mental Health Counseling: June 1 (fall admission only).

Q: Are international students required to submit SAT results?
A: International students whose native language is English are required to submit official SAT results. This must be the new SAT examination, which includes the writing section. For those students interested in scholarship review, the Office of International Admissions recommends that official SAT results be submitted.

Q: Are scholarships available for international students?
A: Undergraduate international students are eligible for merit, talent, and athletic scholarships. These scholarships range from $6,000 to full tuition for freshman applicants. To qualify for a merit based award, students must have scored at least a 600 TOEFL (250 computer score, 100 Internet score) or 1050 combined on the critical reading and verbal sections of the new SAT, and have superior academic marks. Transfer applicants are eligibile for scholarships in the range of $4,000-$9,000. To be eligible for full-time transfer scholarships, applicants must meet the TOEFL requirements listed above (unless they are transferring from an institution in a country with English as its native language) in addition to superior academic marks. Portfolio reviews and auditions are required for students interested in talent awards.

Q: How do I apply for a scholarship?
A: All undergraduate applicants are reviewed for scholarship recommendation once a complete application is submitted. There is no separate scholarship application. Candidates are notified within three weeks of their acceptance letter.

Q: How large is Adelphi University's international population?
A: Currently, more than 250 international students from 62 countries attend Adelphi University. Our entire student population has over 4,700 total students (this represent both undergraduate and graduate students that are attending full-time).
